FAQ - Lawsons Outdoor

Our Decking

A: Trex decking will not rot, warp, splinter and it will never need painting or staining.
A: Trex is made from 95% recycled material which is processed to ensure the highest level of quality and performance.
Trex Transcend deck boards are manufactured with a high-performance shell that wraps around the composite board to protect it from the elements, providing resistance to fading, staining, scratching and mould. In addition to improved performance, the shell technology offers: Easier maintenance: requiring only an occasional cleaning with soap and water or a pressure washer. Enhanced aesthetics: richer, long-lasting colour palettes and natural timber grain patterns. Incremental warranty protection: a 25-year limited residential fade and stain warranty.
A: With pressure-treated timber decks, maintenance costs can add up over time. You’ll never have to sand, stain or paint your Trex deck. Over your deck’s lifespan, those reduced maintenance costs add up to a greater value than timber – not to mention the value of all the time you get to spend enjoying your deck rather than working on it.
A: Trex boards are 50-70% heavier than comparable lumber sections.
A: Trex Transcend has a protective shell technology that provides superior fade and stain resistance.
A: Yes of course you can, just click on the following link: https://www.lawsonsoutdoor.co.uk/free-samples
A: 10 year limited commercial warranty and a 25-year limited residential warranty.
A: Trex decking features an innovative outer shell. It is thermally-bonded to ensure that there is no de-lamination.
The outer shell is applied to three sides of the board. This allows moisture to escape and provides better adhesion than a full cap.
Uncapped decking boards will fade, stain, take on mould and rot.
Fully capped decking boards do not allow moisture to escape which in turn may cause separation over time.
A: This is the industry standard and if they are over 400mm it would violate the warranty.
A: Trex is the world’s largest and oldest producer of composite decking with over 20 years’ heritage.
A: Boards often have a camber / bow in the board – especially the longer lengths like the 4.88m. These are easily resolved when installed. Before installing the board, turn it around so the camber is curving outwards. Start installing the board from one end. As you move along the board, gently push the board into line and use the clips or screws to secure it.
A: All deck boards must always be installed with a 6mm side-to-side gap. The Trex Hideaway Hidden Fasteners automatically measure the 6mm gap between grooved edge boards but you must still ensure the 6mm gap with the square edge boards.

All deck boards must always be installed with a 3-5mm end-to-end or end-to-width gap between boards.
A: There must also be a 6-13mm abutting gap between the boards and other objects such as garden walls or houses.
What to do before installing my decking boards
A Yes, whatever your decking experience, we highly recommend reading the installation guide.
A: No two boards are the same, they are unique. Like normal timber, it is recommended to arrange them out to get a good colour pattern, before installing them.
A: Yes, we do, there is a tolerance of up to 5mm added to the ends of each board that can be trimmed with the usual wood cutting tools.
A: We have an installation guide on our website.
Decking Aftercare and Cleaning
A: Trex should never be sanded. Sanding will change the appearance and protective qualities of the Trex material and will void the warranty.

Trex Transcend can be power washed. Use only a fan tip and a power washer (up to 3,100 psi) to remove soil and debris. The fan tip should be no closer than 8 inches (20.4 cm) away from the protective shell during use.
A: Trex Transcend requires a simple soap and water cleaning to maintain the beauty of the product.
A: Trex keeps more than 180million kilos of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills annually. This is the same weight as 14,229 London buses.

Our Artificial Turf

A: Artificial Turf comes in rolls of 2m or 4m wide.
A: First, measure the overall length and width of the area that you want to turf. Always allow for the widest part of your lawn and cut away the areas.
Artificial Turf comes in rolls that are 2m or 4m wide. So, if your garden is 5.2m wide and 6m long you will need 2 rolls: 4m x 6m and 2m x 6m.
A: Namgrass utilises a unique pile anchorage system called “Tuftlock” this ensures that all the lovely fibres stay put and stand the test of time.
Our artificial turf has a 10-year warranty and benefit from a thick layer of latex to protect the backing and integrity of the product. Namgrass has been producing artificial turf for over 30 years.
A: Namgrass is suitable for kids, pets, sport, or just creating the perfect garden.
A: Namgrass is low maintenance. After a while, soil, twigs and other unwanted stuff may find their way onto your grass. This won’t affect it at all, but if left over a long time it could encourage weeds to grow. Simply give your grass a good brushing with a stiff brush or a plastic rake (but not a metal one), or a garden blower/vac.
A: From time to time, give your grass a good going over with a stiff brush or plastic rake. This will perk up the pile of your grass, especially in areas that aren’t used so much. It’s a bit like giving your hair a comb and will smarten up the look of your grass.

A: If you have equipment that remains stationery we always advise moving this around from time to time to ensure even wear conditions on the grass and brush the area with a stiff yard brush to stimulate the grass pile and freshen it up. It is quite normal for the grass to sit flatter in these areas than others that do not receive as much use.
